… in which Trick rolls out Wildbirds, Peacedrums and the polymetric metal of Meshuggah, Tom drops Calypso and yacht rock, we procure our own Jukebox Jury and we nearly get ourselves in hot water with Ofcom over remarks made about one of the presenters allegedly – ALLEGEDLY – once sharing the same dealer as a certain Stevie Wonder soundalike funkster with many cars and a bad temper.
So: business as usual then.
… and, if you can get through all that, we bring you the usual broad spread of tracks taking in Ninja Tune’s finest artist (in Trick’s humble opinion) Yppah, the telecaster brilliance of one-time Byrds associate Clarence White, the cosmic music of John & Alice Coltrane, newies Sound Species and a phenomenal half-time groove from one-time dancehall man Eric Delaney.
After much raving on the show about Clarence White and why he’s such an underrated (to some at least) guitar legend, it only seems right to direct you to this excellent post covering the very period played on the show (i.e. pre-Byrds, post bluegrass pickin’). Go take a read, trust me its worth it – with plenty of audio to dig through too.

Afternote: here’s the Featured Video that accompanied this show –
… AKA “the one for our Mums”. This week we decided to step up with a fair spread of tracks taking in anything from the 90s loveliness of Girls Against Boys to the Gloria Estefan-toting Lindstrøm & Christabelle. We also feature two of Tom’s worst selections ever, namely bogle covers of Bette Midler and Bryan Adams. No, seriously. On top of that we have the sublime stylings of Lorraine Ellison, the Coltrane-covering Red Holt and, despite protestations, the annual revisit of Meshuggah – an airing best summed up by the message we received during the show from listener Jesscapeshop via Twitter: “somehow a year between airings doesn’t seem quite long enough”…
So, as ever, grab your cognac, settle into your oxblood leather armchair, put those slipper-covered feet up on the coffee table and join us as we reprise the Camden Lurch for the next 60 minutes…
Girls Against Boys “In Like Flynn”
