Mr Trick & Wrongtom: Show #50 (Sept.’09)
With no small sense of achievement, we roll into our fiftieth show, and so figured we should celebrate with a few friends joining us and a theme special of sorts to boot. Originally the plan was to revisit the finest tracks from our first 49 shows, but on the basis we podcast the show we felt it would be selling things a bit short, and hence we swiftly revised our idea and instead step up with a selection of shows all united by one theme: they are all over fifty years old.
With 1959 as the cutoff date we were both hesitant as to how easy this would be, but ironically we found it to be one of the easiest shows to select for that we’ve ever done. Taking in doo wop, jazz, calypso, R&B and even proto-electronica courtesy of Raymond Scott, there is a distinct whiff of “they don’t make em like that anymore”, no question. Factor in our listeners Rob and “survivalist beard”-toting Long Distance Dan joining us and chipping in too and its a fine, warm celebration of our half-centenary.
