… in which Trick rolls out Wildbirds, Peacedrums and the polymetric metal of Meshuggah, Tom drops Calypso and yacht rock, we procure our own Jukebox Jury and we nearly get ourselves in hot water with Ofcom over remarks made about one of the presenters allegedly – ALLEGEDLY – once sharing the same dealer as a certain Stevie Wonder soundalike funkster with many cars and a bad temper.

So: business as usual then.

Enjoy!

AKA “The Film Special”…

… in which Tom reveals the real reason he wanted to do this soundtrack-themed special, Trick nurses a hangover, the merits of fake film bands are discussed, the duo forget the name of a certain Bond film and much fine music is played inbetween times.

With music from the likes of Sven Libaek, Bill Conti, King Curtis, Monty Norman, Roland Alphonso, Pink Floyd (!) and even the appearance of those mad dramatic synth stab moments from Teen Wolf, this is, well, more of the same from our laconic (ha!) pair…

As we announced on the last show, we’re now off the FM airwaves for a little while pending a reshuffle in the schedule that will hopefully see us move to a weekly format at a slightly more favourable time (e.g. 7pm or something). However rather than take a break, we thought we’d record a show specially for podcasting to ensure nobody forgets who we are.

So! On this June show, you get Tom’s “Cowes Treasures” fresh from his break in the Isle of Wight, Trick’s favourite ever country and western song about the ills of LSD (because as we know, there are many), not to mention brand new tracks from The Bug, Diplo and Ladyhawk… the latter of which was played specifically because Tom can’t stand it.

Expect the usual line in “soaks by the fire” banter, fine tunes running the whole gamut of music styles (hell Tom even drops a Harry Belafonte/Bob Dylan collab in there!) and even a moment of self-aggrandisement when Trick plays one of his own tunes. LEGGO MY EGO!

… in which Trick starts the show without Tom, who was stuck somewhere on public transport having his own nightmares. Music comes courtesy of the b-side to Match of the Day, Albert King, Harry Belafonte, Mr Chop and a load more. Also featured is dirty space disco and a wholly impressive rant about the NME. Beware kids – this one gets sweary!

As ever, this is a show not about the music you know, but the music you don’t know. Check it out and spread the word!

Back once again, Messrs Trick and Tom bemoan the quality of promos of late, drop some Johnny Hammond, deliver some afro-funk HOTNESS™, discuss the backgrounds of dub at length and, of course, play a grindcore band. Fronted by a parrot. And that’s just in the opening half hour…

In addition, the gruesome two vet a new promo, live on air. This results in gritted teeth, swearing, moaning, swearing and then some more swearing. Blame Tom – he brought in the Alphabeat “dance” remixes… *cringe*

Then its on to Djelimady Tounkara and the Super Rail Band for some fine Mali styles from the 70s, some Shut Up And Dance mightiness courtesy of Nicolette and finally some Karl Hector and the Malcouns, Stones Throw’s newest signings who are, frankly, on course for LP of the year. GET SOME!

Y’know, it AMAZES me that we’re not on the radio. The NME people should be kicking down our door with their big “build em up and knock em down” Nathan Barley loafers on and signing us up and STAT. Seriously.

Download now and hear it all for yourself people! (106Mb)
