Mr Trick & Wrongtom: Show #51 (Sept.’09)
With its soothing opening number and sordid assortment of visceral assaults on your ears, this is indeed a step away from usual shows. Or, we could be lying, with anyone from Lindisfarne to Rockney legends Chas & Dave both making an appearance in the one show. Which is true? Well, that would be telling…
… unless you read the tracklist below, which kinda ruins the surprise
Get stuck in people! And thanks to those of you who are keeping up the regular comms via Twitter, SMS or email (well, maybe not the latter -- even we’ve forgotten what our email address is). However we still want MORE COMMUNICATION from you dirty heathens, so when we resurface this Wednesday, be sure to send us a message by whatever means necessary -- even carrier pigeon if need be…

Mr Trick & Wrongtom: Show #50 (Sept.’09)
With no small sense of achievement, we roll into our fiftieth show, and so figured we should celebrate with a few friends joining us and a theme special of sorts to boot. Originally the plan was to revisit the finest tracks from our first 49 shows, but on the basis we podcast the show we felt it would be selling things a bit short, and hence we swiftly revised our idea and instead step up with a selection of shows all united by one theme: they are all over fifty years old.
With 1959 as the cutoff date we were both hesitant as to how easy this would be, but ironically we found it to be one of the easiest shows to select for that we’ve ever done. Taking in doo wop, jazz, calypso, R&B and even proto-electronica courtesy of Raymond Scott, there is a distinct whiff of “they don’t make em like that anymore”, no question. Factor in our listeners Rob and “survivalist beard”-toting Long Distance Dan joining us and chipping in too and its a fine, warm celebration of our half-centenary.
Tracklisting:
The Blue Men “Orbit Around The Moon”
Kansas Joe McCoy “When The Levee Breaks”
Sun Ra & His Solar-Myth Arkestra “Watusa”
The Five Satins “In The Still of the Night”
Maya Angelou “Stone Cold Dead In The Market”
Raymond Scott “Don’t Beat Your Wife Every Night”
The Chantels “Maybe”
Raymond Scott “The Rhythm Modulator”
Raymond Scott “BC 1675″
Howlin’ Wolf “Evil (Is Goin On)
Soundbed: Led Zeppelin “When The Levee Breaks”

Fifty!
It’s a special day for us at Trick & Tom HQ as we’ve reached our half centenary – our 50th show hits the airwaves tonight and we decided to mark this special occasion with a live studio audience.
It’ll be party hats all round as we celebrate with a pre 1959 theme to the music selection, we were considering selecting some of our favourites from the last 49 shows but then figured we’d be robbing the podcasters amongst you so instead we’ve been dusting off the doo wop, having it to hard bop and applying our usual style of musical paths less traveled to an era which we’ve largely overlooked ourselves.
The fruit punch will be flowing, parcels will be passed, and this may be the first time anyone’s played musical chairs to Sun Ra, tune in at 10pm.
Mr Trick & Wrongtom: Show #49 (Sept.’09)
It all went a little disco via the Indian subcontinent this week, with both Trick and Tom dropping Pakistani and Indian classics and Tom then contuining with tracks all matching one theme: they took some kind of inspiration from Giorgio Moroder.
Add on to that an old fave of both presenters in the form of Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy and a classic, CLASSIC Upsetters dub (arguably one of the funkier out there) and it all amounts to one fine listen. Don’t believe us? Hit the play button below and if the opening track doesn’t grab you, nothing will…
Tracklisting:
Karye Pyar “Tafo feat Nahid Akhtar”
Vijay Benedict “Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki”
Ebony Bones “The Muzik”
Killing Joke “Turns To Red”
Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy “Language Of Violence (Jazz Version)”
Boriken Soul “Boriken”
The Upsetters “Dub In The Backseat”
Soundbed: Georgio Moroder’s Midnight Express OST including “Chase” and “Love Theme”

Featured video this week is the original version of the Disposables “Language of Violence”, a old favourite of ours which sadly didn’t age as well. A shame as at the time this was truly awesome stuff:
Mr Trick & Wrongtom: Show #48 (Sept.’09)
Many would argue that with a 2 week break under our belts we would be back rested, keen and generally spry; ready to pounce on the airwaves like proverbial FM ninjas to deliver some programming finesse. Sadly, as we commence with Trick playing entirely the wrong track, we can once again prove that if the “many” in question were referring to us they’d be sadly mistaken.
Gaffes aside, we return augmented by 50% with the additional presence (and no doubt hotly anticipated return) of one Edward Zed, Esq. Since his last show he has been present as the rather disembodied voice of our “number to text in on” sting, but now he returns body-and-all with a couple of his own fine selections to let loose on you, our dear listeners. Music covered includes Coati Mundi, Jason Crest, Herma Puma and Reggie Stepper, and topics take in anything from Toyah, Vicki Michelle in panto, the merits of tampons over skincare products and, most pressingly, exactly which curry our listener Josh had just ordered from over the road.
Only here, dear listener, only here…
Tracklisting:
Herma Puma “Psych Out”
Jason Crest “Black Mass”
Bob “The Things That You Do”
Coati Mundi “No More Blue”
Hudson Mohawke -- Rising 5
Aksak Maboul “(Mit I) Saure Gurke (Aus I Urwald Gelockt)”
Reggie Stepper “Little Miss”
The soundbed started with Clint Mansell’s “Moon” soundtrack, then moved on to 4 Hero’s “Expansions” disc…

The featured video for this could only be this -- someone’s vid tribute to Jason Crest’s “Black Mass” track doubling as an homage to b-movies of yesteryear…
